HEBER CITY, Utah-Wednesdsay, Wasatch High School hosted the first day of the Region 8 track and field championships with the Wasps’ boys and girls each getting some quality work done.
The girls are currently in fourth place in the overall standings with 32 points while the boys are in fifth place with five points.
The top four finishers in every event will qualify for the state championship meet at BYU May 18 and 19.
In the girls’ 1600-meter run, Wasatch’s Abby Randall placed 11th overall with Kyle Weldon placing 7th overall in the boys’ 1600-meter run.
The girls’ medley team placed a respectable fifth overall in a time of 4:23.10 while Makayla Bastos, Mickey Scovil, Sydney Hales, Abby West and Amy Richardson represented the Wasps in this event.
In the boys’ medley, the Wasps placed sixth overall in a time of 4:04.46 as Isaac Young, Vic Ostergaard, Braden Patterson and Daniel Bennion competed in this event for Wasatch.
The meet resumes Thursday.
