IRVING, Texas-Monday, BYU football junior defensive end Tyler Batty was named as the Big 12 defensive player of the week for his contributions in the Cougars’ 38-31 win at Arkansas Saturday.
The former Payson High School star posted nine tackles, including 1.5 tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks in the victory over the Razorbacks.
Batty presently has 17 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss (tied for the team lead) and 2.5 sacks (tied for the team lead).
Batty has also served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Spanish cities of Madrid and Malaga.
Batty and his BYU teammates make history Saturday as they play in the Cougars’ first all-time Big 12 game at Lawrence, Kan. against the Kansas Jayhawks.
