PROVO, Utah-Saturday, Wasatch competed against their fellow 5A schools during the final day of state track and field competition at Robison Track on the campus of Brigham Young University.
Wasatch star athlete Madi Durrant excelled in numerous ways at the meet Saturday. She won the 400-meter dash state title in 55.33 seconds. In so doing, she is the first Wastach High School student-athlete in the hebervalleyradio.com era to win a state championship in track and field. Additionally,she placed second in the girls 100-meter dash. Durrant also placed second in the girls 200-meter dash
Peter Meuzelaar also excelled, placing eighth in the boys 100. Kate Giles placed seventh in the girls 800. In field events, Paige Berg placed seventh in the javelin.
The Orem Tigers won the 5A boys title, their 11th all-time and second in a row, with 133 points. Lehi placed second with 100.5 points. Mountain View finished third with 53 points. Wasatch tied Skyline for 22nd place as the Wasps and Eagles had 3 points apiece.
The Box Elder Bees won the 5A girls title, their third all-time, with 79.5 points. Timpanogos placed second with 58 points and Lehi finished third with 52 points. Wasatch finished ninth with 30 points.
