DENVER-Monday, the Western Athletic Conference confirmed, via a report from CBSsports.com’s Matt Norlander, that its men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will now use advanced analytics to determine seeding for the events.

WAC commissioner Brian Thornton and associate commissioner Drew Speraw, each of whom are former basketball coaches, commissioned Ken Pomeroy, the proprietor of kenpom.com, a college basketball Web site and statistical archive to devise a formula to “accurately” reflect the achievements of WAC schools.

This affects three Utah Division I schools as Southern Utah University, Utah Tech University and Utah Valley University all belong to the Denver-based conference presently.
