PHILADELPHIA-Tuesday morning, Utah sophomore cornerback Clark Phillips III and junior quarterback Cameron Rising were honored by numerous college awards. Phillips
was named a semifinalist for the Chuck Bednarik Award. This award is annually granted to the most outstanding defensive player of the year in college football.
Phillips has five interceptions (two pick sixes), two pass breakups and a sack.
Phillips is also a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is annually granted to the top defensive back in college football.
Rising is a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award as confirmed by the Maxwell Football Club. The Maxwell Award is annually granted to the best overall player in FBS college football regardless of position.
Later Tuesday, Rising was also named as one of 16 finalists for the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award.
Rising is completing just under 69 percent of his passes (16th nationally) for 1,855 yards, 15 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
Phillips, Rising and their Utah teammates return to action Saturday by hosting the Arizona Wildcats at Rice-Eccles Stadium for a 5:30 pm kickoff.
