Utah Baseball Roundup: 6/28

Triple A-West

SALT LAKE CITY-Jack Mayfield homered in the bottom of the 9th Inning to put the game away as the Salt Lake Bees waxed Las Vegas  3-1 Monday at Smith’s Ballpark in Triple A-West play.

Matt Thaiss scored in the bottom of the 4th Inning on a throwing error by Aviators catcher Carlos Perez to give the Bees a 1-0 lead.

Las Vegas tied things up 1-1 in the top of the 7th Inning on a ground-out RBI by Francisco Pena, setting the stage for Mayfield’s heroics in the 9th.

Jose Quijada earned the win on the mound for the Bees, improving to 2-1 on the season. Salt Lake improved to 21-25 on the season with the win.

The Aviators fell to 23-24 on the season with the loss.

The Bees and Aviators meet again Tuesday at Smith’s Ballpark for a 6:35 pm opening pitch. This concludes the series.

Pioneer League

MISSOULA, Mont.-Zachery Almond, McLain O’Connor and Jose Reyes each homered as the Missoula Paddleheads bested Ogden 10-7 Monday at Ogren Park at Allegiance Field in Pioneer League play. Kevin Hilton earned the win on the mound for the Paddleheads, who improved to 23-10 with the victory.

Raul Shah and Kyle Kaufman each homered for the Raptors in the loss as they fell to 22-11.

The Raptors take Monday off before hosting Idaho Falls at Lindquist Field Wednesday.
