Canvas Data Breach Impacting Utah Schools

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Utah schools are continuing to deal with the fallout from a cybersecurity breach involving the Canvas learning platform. Officials say the hacking group “ShinyHunters” claimed responsibility for breaching Instructure, the Salt Lake City-based parent company of Canvas. The Utah State Board of Education says potentially exposed information may include usernames, email addresses, student ID numbers and messages exchanged through the platform. State officials say no action is currently required from students or families, though some schools are still reporting ongoing issues with Canvas.
