SALT LAKE CITY-Kean Wong’s RBI double in the bottom of the 12th lifted the Salt Lake Bees to a 5-4 win over the Tacoma Rainiers Sunday at Smith’s Ballpark in Pacific Coast League play.
Jake Gatewood’s 2-run homer in the bottom of the 9th lifted the Bees to a 3-3 tie, sending the game into extra innings.
In the top of the 12th, Tacoma took a 4-3 lead on Mason McCoy’s RBI double before Wong’s heroics.
David MacKinnon also homered in victory for Salt Lake.
By virtue of Sunday’s win, the Bees improved to 44-49 and won their second consecutive series after not winning a series in all of June.
Ryan Smith earned the win on the mound for Salt Lake by posting four strikeouts in two innings of work. This was Smith’s first win of the season after losing his first six starts.
Salt Lake returns to action Tuesday at Reno for a 7:35 pm opening pitch against the Aces.
