SALT LAKE CITY-Tuesday, Utah’s Public Health and Economic Energy Commission voted unanimously to recommend that most of the Beehive State move into a “smart green” phase concerning how certain areas of the state handle COVID-19 restrictions, officials said.
This vote came after the commission made modifications to the state’s color coded phased reopening plan.
The changes it agreed upon entailed a modified yellow phase and a “smart green” phase.
The move, per commission members selected by Utah Gov. Gary Herbert, will allow nearly all Utah businesses to activate a plan to open safely and reopen the state’s economy.
In a statement issued Tuesday evening by Herbert’s office, a spokeswoman said Herbert will take this into consideration.
Sen. Dan Hemmert, the co-chair of the commission, said the emphasis that this level of green will not restore things to their pre-pandemic state in March.
Hemmer exhorts those in the high-risk category to continually take precautions.
