SALT LAKE CITY-Per Thursday news, the University of Utah confirmed it will waive application fees for first-time first-year students who have a permanent mailing address in Utah or attend a tribal high school in the Beehive State.
In previous years, the Salt Lake City-based university opted to waive applications for Utah students during Utah College Application Week.
As of August 1, the fee will be waived for qualifying applicants during the entire application period. No special code will be required.
John Marfield, the executive director of the university’s Office of Admissions, said the purpose of this is to take away a barrier to apply and attend college at the UofU.
The university received feedback from high school counselors in Utah over the past two years that application fees create a “significant barrier” for college applicants.
The new application for spring, summer and fall 2023 will go live August 1 with an early action and merit scholarship consideration deadline of December 1.
This waiver does not apply to transfer students.
