SALT LAKE CITY-The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, per a late Thursday announcement, has announced groundbreaking ceremonies for temples in India, the Philippines and Zimbabwe.
In December 2020, groundbreaking for a temple at Bengaluru, India will occur.
Presiding at this event will be Elder Robert K. William, an Area Seventy.
This temple, first announced in April 2018 by Church President Russell M. Nelson, will be the first temple in the nation.
Less than three weeks after the announcement, President Nelson traveled to India during his global ministry and spoke to hundreds of Latter-day Saints in Bengaluru
The Bengaluru temple will be constructed in the Whitefield neighborhood of Bengaluru.
Plans are calling for a temple of approximately 40,000 square feet on a 1.62-acre site. A two-level meetinghouse, administrative offices, a distribution center, and a patron housing facility are also to be constructed on the site.
India consists of 14,528 Latter-day Saints with four stakes and 15 family history centers.
The Davao Philippines Temple groundbreaking is slated for November 2020. Presiding at this event is Elder Taniela B. Wakolo, the Philippines Area president.
This temple is to be constructed on a 2.7-acre site at Ma-a Road and Anahaw Road, Bgy. Ma-a Davao City 8000.
This is to be a two-story structure consisting of approximately 18,450 square feet. The site is to include patron and temple presidency housing and a meetinghouse.
This temple was announcd in October 2018 by President Nelson.
The Philippines has 805,209 Latter-day Saints in 115 stakes.
Other temples in the Philippines include the Manila (1984) and Cebu City (2010). Temples have been planned for Alabang, Bacolod, Cagayan de Oro and Urdaneta.
The Harare Zimbabwe Temple will have a groundbreaking ceremony in December 2020.
Elder Edward Dube of the Africa South Area Presidency will preside at this event.
This temple, the first in Zimbabwe, is to be constructed on a 6.7-acre site on 65 Enterprise Road Highlands in Harare. This temple is to be approximately 17,250 square feet.
This temple was first announced in April 2016 by then-Church President Thomas S. Monson.
Zimbabwe consists of 34,330 Latter-day Saints in seven stakes. There are two missions in Zimbabwe, headquartered in Bulawayo and Harare.
