SALT LAKE CITY-Presently, crews working on Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City have reached the end of a new 180-foot-long tunnel underneath North Temple Street.
This will connect the Conference Center parking lot to the new underground temple entrance.
The final work of removing the concrete walls leading into the Conference Center parking structure will be completed at a future date.
Recently, workers began scaffolding on the temple’s west and north sides. Scaffolding is already covering the southern side and will eventually surround the entire structure.
Crews continue to move rows of stones from the temple walls for repair and cleaning. Each of these stones are carefully labeled and will be returned to their original spots.
To keep Salt Lake City clean, the renovation site features a truck washing bay. Before vehicles exit the temple renovation site onto South Temple Street, wheels, axles, mud flaps and other parts of the vehicle are sprayed thoroughly.
Crews have discovered several square-headed nails depicting the workmanship and materials used to build the Salt Lake Temple, which was constructed in 1893. The longest nails are six inches long and show hardly any signs of corrosion.
