SALT LAKE CITY-Sunday afternoon, the concluding session of semiannual General Conference occurred at the Conference Center at Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City.
President Dallin H. Oaks, the first counselor in The First Presidency of the Church conducted this session.
The first speaker of this session was President Henry B. Eyring, the second counselor in The First Presidency of the Church. He exhorted the Saints to continually strive to return to Father in Heaven and His Son, Jesus Christ, at the end of this life.
The next speaker was Elder Ryan K. Olsen of the Seventy who commenced his remarks by sharing his love for his nieces and nephews.
He also encouraged missionaries to prepare themselves for their callings. They will serve a people as opposed to a geographical place.
The next speaker was Elder Jonathan S. Schmitt of the Seventy who spoke of Jesus Christ’s many names. Incidentally, Elder Schmitt continued, many of these names happen to be titles.
He also told the Saints that the Gospel of Jesus Christ provides consistency as opposed to the mercurial winds of doctrine that personify the world at large.
The next speaker was Elder Mark D. Eddy of the Seventy. He spoke of the “virtue of the word of God” as spoken of in the Scriptures. He followed this up by correctly identifying Christ as this “virtue of the word of God.”
The following speaker was Elder Gary E. Stevenson of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles. He spoke of a previous missionary experience he had with a non-member friend who had questions about the Book of Mormon. As Elder Stevenson bore his testimony, his friend eventually joined the Church and is presently a bishop in Indiana.
Elder Stevenson concluded his remarks by encouraging his listeners to take any and every opportunity to share their testimonies of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The next speaker was Elder Isaac K. Morrison of the Seventy who spoke of how we can use our experiences to brings others closer unto Christ as we do our best to serve Him.
The next speaker was Elder Quentin L. Cook, or the last Apostle to speak for the first time during this conference session.
He recounted a trip to Great Britain recently during his remarks with President Nelson, where Elder Cook had served as a missionary as a young man.
Elder Cook denounced abuse during his remarks and exhorted the Saints to bridle their passions.
President Nelson again served as the concluding speaker at General Conference as is customary. He shared a snippet of the 3 Nephi 11 portion of the Book of Mormon series.
He then announced the new temple locations throughout the world:
Busan, Korea
Naga, Philippines
Santiago, Philippines
Eket, Nigeria
Chiclayo, Peru
Buenos Aires City Center, Argentina
Londrina, Brazil
Riberao Preto, Brazil
Huehuetenango, Guatemala
Jacksonville, Florida
Grand Rapids, Michigan
Prosper, Texas
Lone Mountain, Nevada
Tacoma, Washington
Cuernavaca, Mexico
Pachuca, Mexico
Toluca, Mexico
Tula, Mexico
These four Mexico temples will be located in the greater Mexico City area, one of the most densely populated regions in the world.
President Nelson said they were necessary because in large metropolitan areas, such as Mexico City, traveling to a temple is a “significant challenge” for many Saints.
President Oaks confirmed after President Nelson’s remarks and the closing prayer, the conference would be adjourned.
