UDOT now anticipates the avalanche closure may take up to 24 hours to clean up.

Friday afternoon, an avalanche officially occurred, shutting things down in Provo Canyon.
Heads up, Utah and Wasatch County drivers! Hwy 189 Provo Canyon is CLOSED btwn Vivian Park & Bridal Veil Falls after an avalanche has covered the road during avalanche mitigation. Crews are hoping to reopen the road in 1-2 hours. @kslnewsradio pic.twitter.com/gtkMjOjFXr

Friday, because of anticipated wet weather throughout Utah, UDOT Avalanche has announced closures to US 189 on Friday at the following locations and times:

This particular closing occurs at 12:15 am Friday morning.
The second one is anticipated for Friday afternoon.

If you need to travel between the Wasatch Front and the Wasatch Back Friday, it is advisable to use US 40 to connect to I-80 at Park City.
