Pres. Oaks Speaks On Importance of Religious Freedom

ROME-Per a late Wednesday report, President Dallin H. Oaks of The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called for a global effort to protect religious freedom of all people at Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome.

Pres. Oaks denounced detractions to global religious freedom. They include secularism, authoritarianism, political correctness and deteriorating attitudes toward religion.

Pres. Oaks also confirmed religious freedom is in the DNA of the Salt Lake City-based faith. In so doing, he cited remarks from the Church’s first president, Joseph Smith, made in 1843.

To ensure all are afforded the privileges of religious freedom, Pres. Oaks gave four suggestions:

  1. Recognize That We Need Each Other And Are All Subject To Law
  2. Urge Religious Tolerance
  3. Let The World Know Of the Good That Religion Does
  4. Unite and Find Common Ground To Defend and Promote Religious Liberty
