Highland High School Parents Accuse Wasatch High School Lacrosse Players of Racism

HEBER CITY, Utah-A Monday evening report confirms an alleged incident of racism from Wasatch High School boys lacrosse players is under investigation.

The alleged incident stems from a Highland-Wasatch lacrosse game last Friday at Wasatch High School.

Parents of Highland High School lacrosse players sent Wasatch High School a complaint alleging three Wasatch lacrosse players used racial slurs against Rams players.

Lex Scott, the founder of Black Lives Matter Utah read from a civil rights complaint filed with her organization, that a fist fight occurred after the game.

As the fist fight ensued, Scott continued, three players yelled out, ‘get the n-words’ and went after one of Highland’s black players.

Parents of Highland High School lacrose athletes declined comment.

Wasatch High School reported the following:

“Wasatch High School and Wasatch County School District are working with the Utah High School Activities Association and Highland High School administration to investigate an incident between the two schools at a lacrosse game on Friday, May 7, 2021.

Wasatch County School District takes any allegations seriously. The District expects our student-athletes and staff to act as role models for other students and to uphold district policies against this sort of behavior . WCSD is supporting the investigation of the incident and will continue to work with the involved parties until a resolution is reached. The District will determine whether disciplinary action is warranted based on the outcome of the investigation.”

The UHSAA confirmed it is aware of this alleged incident.

A spokesperson for the Salt Lake City School District, which Highland High School belongs to, said administration from both schools are communicating.
