Groundbreaking Announced For Willamette Valley Oregon Temple

SALT LAKE CITY-Monday, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the groundbreaking date for its temple at Springfield, Ore.

This will officially be known as the Willamette Valley Temple.

The ceremony is slated for Saturday October 29.

Presiding at the event will be Elder Valeri V. Cordon, a General Authority Seventy and the first counselor in the Church’s North America West Area Presidency.

Attendance at the site will be by invitation only.

The temple is to be built on a 10.5-acre site located at the intersection of International Boulevard and Corporate Way in Springfield.

Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 30,000 square feet. The temple will serve more than 30,000 Latter-day Saints.

The temple was first announced during the April 21 General Conference by Church President Russell M. Nelson.

Oregon is home to 151,151 Latter-day Saints in 35 stakes and 3 congregations.
