Fire Restrictions Begin For Northern Utah Public Lands To Prevent Wildfires

SALT LAKE CITY-Per Wednesday news, the Bureau of Land Management has implemented Stage 2 fire restrictions to prevent losses from human-caused wildfires brought on by extreme drought, high fire danger conditions and increased use of public lands in Cache, Morgan, Rich, Salt Lake, Summit, Tooele, Utah and Wasatch counties.

These fire restrictions entail multiple measures to help BLM public lands remain safe and accessible.

Restrictions include

-no open fires of any kind (this includes compressed or liquid gas grills, stoves and pellet feed smokers with at least three feet of clearance of flammable materials).

-smoking cigarettes, except within an enclosed vehicle, building, developed recreation site or while stopped in a cleared area of at least three feet in diameter that is barren and cleared of all flammable material

-grinding, cutting and welding of metal

-operating a chainsaw or other internal combustion engine without a properly installed USDA or Society of Automative Engineers approved spark arresting device

-use of any steel core, jacketed and tipped ammunition of any caliber

-use of any kind of explosives, incendiary or chemical devices, pyrotechnic or fireworks or exploding targets

-use of any sky lanterns, Chinese lanterns, fire balloons, acetylene balloons or similar device

-use of any off-road vehicle that is not equipped with a properly-installed and maintained spark arrestor. Spark arresters shall meet the 80 percent efficiency level standard when determined by the appropriate SAE recommended practices.
