AUCKLAND, New Zealand-Per a Thursday announcement from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a groundbreaking ceremony for a new temple in Auckland, New Zealand will occur later this year.
In a statement from the Salt Lake City-based faith, the groundbreaking is slated for Saturday June 13, 2020.
Presiding at the event will be the Church’s Pacific Area president, Elder Ian S. Ardern.
Attendance at this occasion is by invitation only. The general public is invited to view the ceremony live from local meetinghouses in New Zealand.

This temple was first announced in October 2018 by President Russell M. Nelson of the Church.
Upon its completion, the Auckland Temple will be the second operated by the Church in New Zealand. The first one, the Hamilton New Zealand Temple, was dedicated in April 1958.
This temple will be 14 miles southeast of Auckland City, next to the New Zealand Missionary Training Center at its south and to the north of the New Zealand Redoubt Stake Center.
After the temple’s completion, open house and dedication dates will be announced.
Presently, New Zealand consists of 114,215 Latter-Day Saints in 30 stakes scattered across 225 congregations.
As of March 2020, New Zealand has a population of 4, 969, 690 residents.
