PROVO, Utah-Per news released late Saturday night, former BYU men’s basketball head coach Frank Arnold passed away at 89.
Arnold went 137-94 (.593) as the head coach for the Cougars from 1975-1983, leading BYU to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including an Elite Eight berth in 1981.
Prior to his time at Provo, Arnold served as an assistant for John Wooden at UCLA.
Following his time as the Cougars’ head coach, Arnold coached at Hawai’i from 1985-1987, going 11-45 (.196) as the Rainbow Warriors’ head coach.
Arnold’s son, Gib, also coached at Hawai’i, going 72-55 (.567) as the Rainbow Warriors’ head coach from 2010-2014.
