SAN MATEO, Calif.-Monday, BYU baseball freshman Mason Strong was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Week for his performance against Nebraska.

The Cougars won the series against the Cornhuskers of The Big Ten Conference.

The catcher out of Santa Clara, Utah and Snow Canyon High School hit .333 for the series with a slugging percentage of .667 and hit a solo home run in Friday’s 7-6 victory.

Strong is hitting .286 on the season with five RBI and eight hits.

The Cougars return to action Tuesday by hosting bitter rival Utah in a non-conference tilt at Smith’s Ballpark.
