5A Playoffs 1st Round
SANDY, Utah-Kirsten Oldham netted 15 points, all of which came on 3-point field goals, as the No. 9 Jordan Beetdiggers dismantled No. 24 Wasatch 57-35 Tuesday in the 1st round of the 5A girls basketball playoffs at Jordan High School.
Ashley Garner had 9 points for the Wasps in defeat. Wasatch’s season ends at 9-15.
Jordan improves to 14-10 in victory. The Beetdiggers next visit No. 8 Cedar Valley Thursday in the second round of the 5A playoffs.
EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah-Naomi Nicholson posted 12 points and 7 rebounds as the No. 8 Cedar Valley Aviators waxed No. 25 Murray 39-28 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs at Cedar Valley High School. Iyana Beh and Mia AuClaire had 8 points apiece for the Spartans in the loss.
BRIGHAM CITY, Utah-Kamyrn Peterson led the way with 16 points and the No. 15 Box Elder Bees overpowered No. 18 Maple Mountain 75-62 Tuesday at Box Elder High School in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs. Sheridan Liggett and Grace Knudsen had 14 points apiece in defeat for the Golden Eagles. Box Elder next visits No. 2 Bountiful Friday in the second round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs.
BOUNTIFUL, Utah-Lizzy McConkie led the way with 12 points as the No. 2 Bountiful Redhawks gashed No. 31 Provo 44-25 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs. Kali Wright had 12 points in defeat for the Bulldogs.
BOUNTIFUL, Utah-Kristina Gunnell stepped up with 18 points as the No. 10 Viewmont Vikings walloped No. 23 Brighton 65-46 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs at Viewmont High School. Chesney Chin led the Bengals in the loss with 23 points. Viewmont next visits No. 7 Skyline Thursday in the second round of the playoffs.
SALT LAKE CITY-Ayla Williams netted 23 points and the No. 7 Skyline Eagles pounded No. 26 Bonneville 73-43 in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs Tuesday at Skyline High School. Sara Stackaruk and Ella Holland had 10 points apiece in defeat for the Lakers.
VERNAL, Utah-Jordan Woodford had 16 points as the No. 13 Uintah Utes humbled No. 20 Stansbury 57-51 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs at Uintah High School. Ainsley Thurber’s 13 points led the Stallions in the loss. The Utes next visit No. 4 Highland Tuesday in the second round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs.
SALT LAKE CITY-The No. 4 Highland Rams overpowered No. 29 Alta 70-47 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs at Highland High School. Brinlee McRae’s 21 points led the Hawks in the loss.
HOLLADAY, Utah-Alyssa Blanck netted 25 points and 11 rebounds as the No. 3 Olympus Titans decimated No. 30 Park City 73-20 in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs Tuesday at Olympus High School. Olivia Miller and Charis Lunsford had 5 points apiece in defeat for the Miners. Olympus next hosts No. 19 East Thursday in the second round of the state playoffs.
SALEM, Utah-Mia Tarver led the way with 13 points and the No. 19 East Leopards upset No. 14 Salem Hills 49-44 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs Tuesday at Salem Hills High School. Chenielle Nye had 16 points and 14 rebounds in the loss for the Skyhawks.
OREM, Utah-Kate Dickinson’s 17 points and 9 rebounds led the way as the No. 11 Timpanogos Timberwolves edged No. 22 Payson 57-56 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs at Payson High School. Melissa McCauley had 13 points in the loss for the Lions. Timpanogos next visits No. 6 Springville in the second round of the state playoffs Thursday.
SPRINGVILLE, Utah-Ellie Esplin posted 16 points and the No. 6 Springville Red Devils pounded No. 27 Hillcrest 56-35 in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs Tuesday. Olivia Backus’ game-high 19 points led the Huskies in the loss.
OREM, Utah-Kaylee Hess led the way with 11 points and the No. 21 Northridge Knights upset No. 12 Orem 33-31 Tuesday in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs at Orem High School. Gaby Goo had 9 points for the Tigers in defeat. Northridge next visits No. 5 Timpview Thursday in the second round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs.
PROVO, Utah-Hinemoa Aston netted 11 points and 5 rebounds and the No. 5 Timpview Thunderbirds got past No. 28 Mountain View 52-38 Tuesday at Timpview High School in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs. Sina Fisilipeau and Tevai Fisilipeau had 7 points apiece for the Bruins in the loss.
LEHI, Utah-Maci Wall stepped up with 14 points and the No. 1 Lehi Pioneers pounded No. 32 Spanish Fork 60-28 at Lehi High School Tuesday in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs. Staci Lomenick had 7 points for the Dons in defeat. Lehi next meets No. 17 Woods Cross Thursday in the second round of the 5A girls basketball playoffs.
MURRAY, Utah-Georgia Hatton posted 14 points and the No. 17 Woods Cross Wildcats upset No. 16 Cottonwood 40-29 in the first round of the 5A girls state basketball playoffs Tuesday. Ashlyn Tripp had 8 points for the Colts in the loss.
