SALT LAKE CITY-Per a Wednesday report from the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute at the University of Utah, the state’s population is expected to grow to 5.5 million residents by 2060.
This report, the “Long-Term Planning Projections” also confirms the state will get older in that same span.
Wasatch County’s population is expected to exceed 46,000 residents.

Washington County is expected to see the largest growth in this span. This report anticipates the southern Utah county will grow by 155 percent. This means an additional 282,000 residents would come within the next 40 years.
The latest population numbers for Washington County confirm some 180,000 residents live there.
This large population bump also may lead to over 1.3 million additional jobs in the next 40 years in The Beehive State.
The construction sector is expected to see the largest bump, per the report. Some 207,000 additional construction jobs are expected to emerge in this span.
