(Farmington, UT) — Some of Utah’s business leaders are financing an ambitious project. The Larry H. and Gail Miller Family Foundation, plus convenience store chain Maverik and the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation pledged 30 million dollars to help restore the depleted Great Salt Lake through the Great Salt Lake Rising initiative. The initiative’s goal looks to bring the lake’s water levels back to sustainable elevation in time for the 2034 Olympics. The lake has lost about half its volume over the last 30 years due to human water use, which has created environmental and health risks from toxic dust.
