ST. GEORGE, Utah-Heber Valley and Wasatch Back-based members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are awaiting the groundbreaking of their temple.
This was first announced in October 2021 General Conference by Church President Russell M. Nelson.
Meanwhile, as the Salt Lake City-based faith continues to announce and build new temples, older temples are also being renovated.
The St. George Temple is approaching completion as renovation continues.
Church Project Manager Eric Jamison confirmed his crew is finishing all of the necessary primary upgrades to complete this historic temple.
A new addition is underway on the west side of the temple and the exterior of the north addition is presently ready for painting.
The renovation also includes structural reinforcement of the temple’s stone foundation. The mechanical and electrical systems are also being upgraded.
The maple and poplar woodwork is patterned after the original woodwork in the historic temple.
The St. George Temple was first dedicated April 6-8, 1877 by the Second Counselor in the First Presidency of the Church, Daniel H. Wells.
It underwent renovation in 1975 with a public house occurring October 15-25, 1975. It was rededicated November 11-12, 1975 then-Church president Spencer W. Kimball.
