SALT LAKE CITY-Thursday, University of Utah president Taylor Randall gave an update concerning the status of coronavirus on campus for the spring semester.
As of March 14, students at the Salt Lake City-based university will have some additional options afforded to them.
Randall declares that Monday, when students return from spring break, masks will no longer be required in indoor spaces on the main campus.
This, she said, is because Salt Lake County’s community level of COVID-19 is “medium.”
Furthermore, Randall continues, the general public will not be required to wear masks in public facilities on campus.
This includes the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, the Natural History Museum of Utah and Pioneer Theater.
However, this does not entail health care facilities. To protect higher-risk individuals, patients, employees, students and visitors must continue to wear masks in all UofU health buildings.
Randall said the university will provide COVID-19 vaccinations and booster shots in health clinics on campus.
Self-test kiosks will remain active on campus throughout the end of the spring semester, she stated.
Additionally, Randall stated the essentiality for all on campus to remain “mask-friendly” in her remarks.
Randall said those who wish to wear masks on campus will be encouraged to do so, especially those who are at severe risk of illness.
Randall signed a letter confirming this update. Also signing the document were Mike Good, the university’s Senior Vice President for Health Sciences and Martell Teasley, the university’s Interim Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.
