The Utah Avalanche Center Warns of Avalanche Danger

UINTA-WASATCH-CACHE NATIONAL FOREST, Utah-Wednesday morning, The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest shared information from the Utah Avalanche Center concerning avalanche danger throughout the Beehive State.

Because many portions of Utah received significant snowfall and may still through 5:00 pm MST Wednesday evening, when the Winter Weather Advisory issued by the National Weather Service of Salt Lake City ceases, avalanche danger is high in various places.

Those seeking to venture outside are advised to first check the avalanche forecast at utahavalanchecenter.org.

They are then encouraged to do the following:

  1. Recognize and avoid avalanche terrain, particularly recently wind-drifted slopes
  2. Ensure everyone in your party has operational avalanche rescue gear and knows how to use it
  3. Cross steep slopes one person at a time while the rest of your party watches from a safe place.
