The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Announces Open House Dates For Tokyo Temple

SALT LAKE CITY-Wednesday, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the open house dates of its open house for the Tokyo Japan Temple.

The public is invited to tour the renovated temple from Friday June 13-Saturday June 18 with the exception of Sundays June 5 and 12.

The Tokyo Temple will be rededicated Sunday July 3 in three sessions: 9:00 am, 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm.

Local Latter-day Saint youth will gather at a nearby meetinghouse Saturday July 2 for a devotional.

Presiding at the rededication is President Henry B. Eyring of the Church’s First Presidency.

The rededicatory sessions and youth devotional will be broadcast to all Church units in the Tokyo Japan Temple District.

The Tokyo Temple was first dedicated October 27-29, 1980 by then-Church president Spencer W. Kimball.

The Tokyo Temple was closed in September 2017 for an extensive renovation.

It is both the first Japanese temple and the first Asian temple for the Salt Lake City-based faith.

Japan consists of 130,340 Latter-day Saints in 28 stakes and 261 congregations.

The Church has had a presence in Japan since 1901 when the first missionaries were sent.
