SALT LAKE CITY-As part of the Salt Lake Temple renovation project, the grounds around the temple are presently being renovated as well.
In January, construction commenced on the Church Office building plaza. Temporary fencing has been placed in the area, followed by more permanent fencing.
Crews are ensuing in their labors on construction of the tunnel running underneath North Temple from the conference center parking structure to the future underground entrance to the temple.
This involves the drilling of canopy tubes that form shoring support.
Close to the temple’s southwest corner, shoring and excavation have been completed for the installation of a lifter for workers and materials as construction ensues at other portions of the structure.
Because of its proximity to the temple’s foundation, the shoring ensures the temple’s excavation is not disrupted.
This will cause easier access for workers and materials into the upper floors of the temple’s interior.
The stones along the temple’s upper walls are all being removed. As they are lifted off with a crane and placed in the ground, they are then labeled.
They are to be placed in storage, cleaned and returned only to return to their original locations at the appointed time.
