Report Examines Great Salt Lake Dust Control Costs

(Salt Lake City, UT) — A new report finds restoring Great Salt Lake levels could be the most cost-effective way to reduce dust from its exposed lakebed. University of Utah researchers released the state-commissioned report yesterday. About 70 square miles of lakebed are considered active dust hotspots. Researchers estimate engineered controls could cost between three-point-two-billion and 31-billion-dollars. The report recommends targeted dust controls along with stabilizing lake levels.
