Pres. Oaks Rededicates Mesa Arizona Temple

MESA, Ariz.-Sunday, Pres. Dallin H. Oaks of The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints rededicated the Mesa Arizona Temple following extensive renovations.

Some 2,400 people came to the ceremony for each of the three sessions.

Local worship services did not occur as the 29 stakes in the Mesa Temple District had the services broadcast to the respective chapels within these regions.

Pres. Oaks and his wife, Kristin, toured the temple Saturday prior to the dedicatory services.

Joining them on the tour were Elder Gerrit W. Gong of The Quorum of Twelve Apostles and his wife, Susan, General Area Seventy and president of the North America Southwest Area, Elder Paul B. Pieper and his wife, Melissa and Elder Kevin R. Duncan, a General Authority Seventy and executive director of the Temple Department and his wife, Nancy.

The Mesa Arizona Temple was first dedicated October 23-26, 1927 by Church President Heber J. Grant.

After renovation, it was rededicated April 15-16, 1975 by Church President Spencer W. Kimball.

There are presently six operating temples in Arizona. They are located at Gila Valley (2010), Gilbert (2014), Phoenix (2014), Snowflake (2002) and Tucson (2017).
