A man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after police say he shot an officer. He then fled the scene and prompted a shelter-in-place advisory Monday in Naples City. Officers and other authorities searched the area and found the man dead in a creek at 1:21 pm.
The man died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound and no officers fired any shots through the incident.

Monday, Naples City residents living on the east side of U.S. Highway 40 are being asked to shelter in place because of an “active police situation.”
On their official Facebook page, residents have been informed a male in his 30’s, wearing no shirt or shoes is in the area. Residents are instructed not to approach him should they spot him.
They are also being asked to report any suspicious activity at this time.
Police responded to a disturbance call. The cause was a man sitting on the front lawn of the home shooting at an officer with a rifle, per Naples City Police Chief Mark J. Watkins.
The officer took cover and prepared to shoot at the man who ran to the back of the home per a report from Watkins.
