SALT LAKE CITY-Monday, the Utah COVID-19 results were released for the past 24 hours and the numbers look promising across the board in virtually every important statistic.
There are now 4,233 positive tests for COVID-19 in the Beehive State. This is an increase of 110 cases from Saturday-Sunday, but it is a -65 decrease in the total positive cases over the course of the past 24 hours.
100,195 total tests for COVID-19 have now been administered in Utah which means the positive percentage rate has dropped to 4.22 percent. Furthermore, only 110 of the 4,493 tested in Utah from Sunday-Monday tested positive, or only 2.2 percent of Utahns in that span.
There have also been 349 hospitalizations from COVID-19 in Utah and for the second consecutive day, no new deaths have resulted from the disease.
State epidemiologist Dr. Angela C. Dunn was the only one to speak at the briefing Monday.
She stated that now the state is looking to identify additional contacts and testing them for COVID-19. She confirmed Utah is still working on increasing contact tracing if the virus has spread.
She did say that the recent numbers are “very encouraging,” and she suggested that Utah is entering the “plateau phase.”
The Utah Department of Health wants to see a decrease in cases for two weeks, or one incubation period. She said that she wants to see Monday’s trend going in the long term, that is, an increase in tests and a decrease in positive cases.
She did say that Utah will not reconsider travel restrictions “until there is a plateau phase nationally.”
Furthermore, Dunn said “Because we have a small number of deaths, we risk identifying them if we get more specific with data.”
She concluded by saying, “We are legally barred from identifying patients without their consent.”
Wasatch County has 140 cases of COVID-19, an increase of 2 in the past 24 hours. There are still only six hospitalizations in Wasatch County and the only death from the disease for a county resident occurred April 10 at a Salt Lake County hospital.
