(Salt Lake City, UT) — A lockdown put in place at state prisons in Salt Lake City and Gunnison has been lifted. The Utah Department of Corrections enacted it more than a month ago after an inmate reportedly attacked a guard at the Central Utah Correctional Facility. DOC officials say such attacks are “violent and egregious” and will not be tolerated. The lockdown put a halt to visitation, recreation, education, and religious services. Restrictions have slowly been lifted in selected housing units throughout the month of October. The name of the guard who was attacked and their condition hasn’t been released.
