(Salt Lake City, UT) — The federal government is suing Utah after the state filed suit against prediction markets like Kalshi. Utah’s Attorney General Derek Brown believes prediction markets are an illegal form of gambling. But the federal government and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission disagree. This week, they filed their own suit against Utah. The feds say Utah cannot interfere with Washington’s ability to regulate swaps that are different from bets. Now, Utah is also filing criminal charges against some Kalshi executives.
