TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (AP) — A man who exchanged gunfire with a police officer in suburban Salt Lake City Thursday died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
A police officer responding to a suspicious vehicle in Taylorsville at around 4:30 a.m. tried to stop a man but he ran away per reports. The unidentified man fired multiple shots at the officer, who returned fire, Police Chief Brady Cottam said. No injuries were reported.
Police used helicopters, dogs and officers from multiple agencies to search for the man. When officers found him, the man turned the gun on himself, Cottam said.
