SPRINGFIELD, Ore.-Thursday, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirmed that the temple announced for the Eugene/Springfield, Ore. area will be called The Willamette Valley Oregon Temple.
The temple is to be constructed on a 10.5-acre site located at the intersection of International Boulevard and Corporate Way in Springfield, Ore.
Plans are calling for a single-story temple of approximately 30,000 square feet.
The temple will serve more than 30,000 Latter-day Saints upon its completion.
A rendering of the temple has been released, but detailed design plans are still in development. A groundbreaking date is to be announced later.
Upon its completion, it will be the third temple in Oregon. Temples in Oregon are currently located at Portland (1989) and Medford (2000).
Oregon consists of 153,540 Latter-day Saints and 35 stakes.
