Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Leaders Meet With The Vice President of the Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic-This past Friday, a delegation of leaders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, led by Elder Ulisses Soares of The Quorum of Twelve Apostles of the Salt Lake City-based faith, were received at the government house of the Dominican Republic.

They were greeted by Dominican Republic Vice President Raquel Pena.

This was the first visit of Church leaders to the executive branch under the presidency of Luis Abinader.

Pres. Abidnader became the president of the nation August 16, 2020.

This meeting’s purpose was to present a report on humanitarian projects carried out by the Church in the country in recent years.

The meeting also entailed ways to continue and expand cooperation between the Church and Dominican state under this new administration.

Elder Soares praised the Dominican government concerning the way they have handled their affairs since March 2020.

Elder Soares was accompanied by Elder Brent H. Nielson of the Presidency of the Seventy and Elder Eduardo Gavarret of the Seventy and President of the Caribbean.

This group also included Sister Rocio Canar, the area organization adviser.

The Church has had a presence in the Dominican Republic since December 7, 1978.

Presently, there are 143,870 Latter-day Saints in the Dominican Republic in 21 stakes and 3 missions.
