Two Counselors Will Serve With Pres. Leavitt In Tabernacle Choir Presidency

SALT LAKE CITY-In information released Thursday evening, two counselors have been called to serve with the recently-announced president of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, Michael O. Leavitt.

At a devotional at the Tabernacle on Temple Square, Whitney L. Clayton (first counselor) and Gary B. Porter (second counselor) were named as Pres. Leavitt’s counselors.

Elder Clayton is an emeritus General Authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bro. Porter is a senior vice president at Deseret Management Corporation.

With Pres. Leavitt, Elder Clayton and Porter will manage the administrative components of The Tabernacle Choir organization.

This includes the supervision of more than 700 volunteers.

Pres. Leavitt was named to this calling August 6.

He replaces the outgoing Ron Jarrett who had been serving in this capacity since 2012.

Presiding at the meeting was the Church’s presiding Bishop, Bishop Gerald Causse.

Pres.  Leavitt confirmed The Tabernacle Choir will meet virtually September 9 followed by a practice September 21.

Pres. Leavitt stated that live performances of Music and the Spoken Word “will commence in due course.”
