PROVO, Utah-Tuesday, Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints shared five valuable messages during his BYU Education Week address.
Elder Uchtdorf said these messages are things “all of God’s children need to hear.”
They are as follows:
- Move To the Light
- You Are Better Than You Think They Are
- Learn To Love God and Your Neighbor
- Conflict Is Inevitable: Contention Is A Choice
- Our Heavenly Father Is A God of New Beings.
As pertaining to his first point, Elder Uchtdorf compared the light of the sun he saw in his previous career as a jet pilot, to the light of God all people need.
Secondly, Elder Uchtdorf used the examples of famed actor/dance Fred Astaire, entertainment mogul Walt Disney, artist Vincent Van Gogh and Biblical protagonists Gideon, Jeremiah, Moses and Enoch.
He cited all of these historical heroes were once considered average or unremarkable by their peers.
Elder Uchtdorf confirmed all that we need to do is use our talents to serve God and He will make up the difference.
Concerning his third point, Elder Uchtdorf cited Matthew 22:34-40 and said loving God and your neighbor is “the bullseye of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
On the fourth point, contention is a way people choose to respond to conflict, Elder Uchtdorf said. He followed this up, confirming “we can choose a better way.” He then confirmed that Christ is the way to help alleviate this.
In conclusion, speaking of his fifth point, Elder Uchtdorf said “our God is the God of new beginnings.”
He closed by saying he is a poor pilgrim who strives to walk the path of discipleship along with everyone else.
