Elder Cook Speaks At Notre Dame Summit

NOTRE DAME, Ind.-Monday, Elder Quentin L. Cook of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Quorum of Twelve Apostles spoke at the University of Notre Dame’s Religious Liberty Summit, a panel on interfaith cooperation.

Elder Cook was joined by His Eminence, the archbishop of New York, Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, Dr. Jacqueline Rivers, a Pentecostal and the director of Seymour Institute for Black Church and Policy Studies of Boston and Rabbi Meir Soloveichik of Congregation Shearith Israel of New York.

Elder Cook contributed by saying that in many cases in this world, religion’s good qualities are overlooked or negatively viewed.

He continued his remarks by saying accountability to God is “a powerful force for good” and strongly defends democracy.

Elder Cook has also noted how religion has moved religious people such as William Wilberforce and the Quakers to denounce slavery.

Elder Cook also confirmed that defending the U.S. Constitution is instrumental in eliminating racism at all levels and will also assist those with religious conviction as they practice their beliefs.

Elder Cook concluded his remarks by saying he hopes all religious faiths will work together to defend faith and religious freedom in a manner that even non-believers will feel protected.
