Mesa Arizona Temple To Be Rededicated

SALT LAKE CITY-Friday, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints confirmed the Mesa Arizona Temple will be rededicated Sunday December 12.

This announcement was made by The First Presidency of the Salt Lake City-based faith.

President Dallin H. Oaks of The First Presidency, who was called to the Apostleship in 1984 at Tucson, Ariz., will preside at the temple’s rededication.

The temple will be rededicated in sessions at 9:00 am, 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm.

This historic temple has been closed since May 2018 for major renovations.

This is the second rededication for the Mesa Temple.

After being originally dedicated by then-Church President Heber J. Grant October 23-26, 1927.

It was rededicated by then-Church President Spencer W. Kimball April 15-16, 1975.

Pres. Kimball grew up in Thatcher, Ariz. and was called to the Apostleship in nearby Safford, Ariz. in 1943.

The public open house will run from October 16-November 20, with the exception of Sundays.

A youth devotional is slated for Saturday December 11.

The rededicatory sessions and youth devotional will be broadcast to congregations in the Mesa Arizona Temple District.

The district consists of all 21 Mesa stakes as well as select stakes in Phoenix, Tempe and Scottsdale as well as the Payson Stake.

The Mesa Visitors Center will be dedicated August 12 at 7:00 pm MST in a broadcast to Church meetinghouses in Arizona.

Upon rededication, Mesa will become the 7th operating temple in Arizona.

The others are located in the Gila Valley (Central, Ariz.; 2010), Gilbert (2014), Phoenix (2014), Snowflake (2002) and Tucson (2017).
