WASATCH COUNTY, Utah-Thursday afternoon, a 17-year-old boy drowned at Deer Creek Reservoir while swimming with his family and friends, officials confirmed.
Utah State Parks Lieutenant Eric Stucki reported that at about 4:45 pm, the boy was swimming with friends and family at Deer Creek Reservoir when he went under the water.
Someone in their group made an attempt to save him but was unsuccessful.
The Wasatch County Dive Team retrieved his body around 7:30 pm Thursday evening.
Utah State Parks is currently investigating the incident and is awaiting a report from the medical examiner’s office.
Friday morning, the victim was identified as Fernando Botello Arredondo.
Authorities believe Arredondo was not wearing a life jacket or using inflatable water toys at the time.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
