Police: Dirt Bike Driver Arrested After Hitting Utah Trooper

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah man has been arrested after police said he struck a state highway patrol trooper last weekend while riding a dirt bike.

Jamin Jenkins, 20, faces multiple charges including aggravated assault, failure to respond to an officer’s signal to stop and purchasing, possessing, or consuming alcohol by a minor, KTVX-TV reported Monday.

Two Utah Highway Patrol troopers found Jenkins was driving the dirt bike on Saturday near the state Capitol grounds in Salt Lake City around 2 p.m. when they attempted to stop him, authorities said.

Jenkins allegedly sped up and struck one of the troopers, authorities said. The trooper had an injured leg and sprained ankle but is expected to recover.

Arresting documents said Jenkins had “a measurable amount of alcohol in his system.”

No additional details were immediately available. It is not immediately known if Jenkins has a lawyer who could comment on his behalf.
