SALT LAKE CITY-Harrison Wenson hit a 2-run homer in the 10th Inning as the Salt Lake Bees earned their first win of the season by outlasting the Reno Aces 10-9 Monday at Smith’s Ballpark.
The Aces drew first blood with a solo home run from Juniel Querecuto to lead 1-0 in the 1st Inning.
The Bees took the lead in the 2nd Inning with RBI from Kean Wong and Jo Adell for a 2-1 advantage.
Reno tied things up in their half of the 3rd with a Josh Reddick sacrifice fly RBI.
Salt Lake responded with two home runs from Jo Adell and a 2-run shot from Torii Hunter. Adell’s second home run in the bottom of the 8th Inning gave the Bees an 8-2 lead.
The Aces exploded for six runs in the 9th Inning as Reddick and Domingo Leyba each homered while Jamie Ritchie added an RBI double and Nick Heath contributed a sacrifice fly RBI to tie things at 8-8, forcing extra innings after Salt Lake failed to score in their half of the 9th.
In the 10th Inning, Stuart Fairchild gave Reno a 9-8 lead on his RBI single, setting the stage for Wenson’s heroics in the Bees’ half of the 10th.
Zac Ryan earned the win on the mound for the Bees, improving to 1-0 on the season.
The Bees and Aces conclude their six-game series at Smith’s Ballpark Tuesday at 6:35 pm.
