Deseret News Names Robin Ritch as New Publisher

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Salt Lake City-based Deseret News has chosen Robin Ritch as its new president and publisher.

Ritch moves into the role from her current position as senior vice president of operations, the newspaper said in a news release Wednesday.

She replaces Jeff Simpson, who is leaving to serve a three-year mission as the president of the Washington Yakima Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the owner of the publication.

Deseret Management Corporation CEO Keith McMullin called Ritch a “transformational leader” who thinks strategically. Ritch previously worked in leadership positions at Cisco, Intel and Microsoft.

The newspaper stopped printing daily newspapers at the end of 2020 and now prints one newspaper every weekend along with a monthly magazine. The newspaper posts stories daily on its website.

The company also announced Wednesday that Deseret News Editor Doug Wilks has been promoted to executive editor.
