Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox speaks during a COVID-19 briefing at the Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021. Cox unveiled a plan Friday to ramp up Utah's COVID-19 vaccine distribution as the state sees a post-holiday surge in new cases. Cox, a Republican, said he will issue an executive order requiring facilities to allocate their doses the week they are received and have local health departments manage distribution, with an expectation of administering 50,000 doses a week. Utah Governor Signs Law to Lift Mask Mandate April 10

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah‘s mask mandate will end April 10 after Gov. Spencer J. Cox signed a bill Wednesday laying out a new timeline for lifting some of the state’s covid-19 restrictions.

Masks orders will remain in place for schools and gatherings of more than 50 people, and businesses can still choose to require them. Cox signed the measure the same day that vaccinations opened to all people in the state aged 16 and older.

New coronavirus cases and hospitalizations in Utah have been on a downward trend since November 2020. 13.1 percent of all Utahns (438,900-3,334,000) have been vaccinated.
