SALT LAKE CITY-Friday, The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints updated the following information concerning renovations of historic pioneer temples:
The Salt Lake Temple will receive two more instruction rooms, additional sealing ordinance rooms and a second baptistry. This is to allow for greater capacity and the performance of more temple ordinances.
There will be a single presentation film for the Salt Lake Temple representing the sacred temple endowment. Upon request, this film can be made available in up to 80 languages.
The area previously housing the temple cafeteria will be renovated to accommodate additional temple facilities.
Murals in the temple will also be required to be moved and/or repainted.
The temple at Manti will also be renovated “later this year” per The First Presidency’s statement.
The Manti Temple will receive numerous mechanical updates and other changes so that subsequent generations may be served.
Comparably to the Salt Lake Temple, the Manti Temple will no longer have the live endowment performed but will instead transition to the film.
Murals at the Manti Temple are to be photographed, documented and removed.
The historic staircases at both the Manti and Salt Lake Temples will be preserved during their respective renovations.
