SALT LAKE CITY-As renovations continue at Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City, among areas getting a face lift are the plaza between the Church Office Building, the Church Administration Building, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building and the Relief Society Building.
The plaza currently features a system of circulating water for the fountain and other areas, that are surrounded by trees, flower gardens and grass.
The renovation is necessary because the water system and concrete deck have been leaking for several years. This has resulted in a hazard being caused for the parking garage underneath.
The new plaza will feature a new waterproofing system and sufficient green spaces to enhance the viability of the Salt Lake Temple.
The fountain will be removed and there will be a large circle of flags from many nations of the world.
This is to celebrate the international flavor of the worldwide The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The plaza area reconstruction will last for 18 months after which construction will then focus on the Main Street plaza.
