SALT LAKE CITY-Tuesday morning, the Salt Lake City Marathon announced they will be going to a virtual format for the 2021 event.

In a statement, marathon officials confirmed this is because of the current state of covid-19.

The committee confirmed they are “heartbroken” that for the second consecutive year, a virtual format will be used.

All participants who deferred from 2020 have been automatically registered for the 2021 Virtual Salt Lake City marathon.

Athletes will again have the option to defer to 2022, but must do so my January 10, 2021.
